You download movies from the iTunes Store or you rip DVDs on your PC using the free Handbrake software, which has special settings for the iPad.

Actually Handbrake is a PC program. It's free and you can use it to convert DVDs to a format that can be played on the iPad. So you download Handbrake (Google is your friend), convert the DVD to an iPad compatible format and then connect your iPad to your PC and transfer the movie. No problems! There are lots of threads on the Forum about how to use Handbrake (Search is your friend).

iTunes has lots of free movies too, and you can simply download those to your iPad over WiFi without needing a PC.
