I'm new to this forum.Just bought my iPad yesterday. I am a nurse, my job is to audit charts. I audit charts from home. BUT, I also travel alot by plane to audit charts other places. I got tired of dragging around either my netbook, and my Nook color, or my nook color and my Kindle and my 14 inch laptop, plus my work laptop which I have to have, and the heavy portable scanner.

I travel so much that I allowed my reimbursements (for a month in Albuquerque), to pay for the iPad. It worked! good plan. No more lugging a nook color and a second laptop through the TSA. When I was in San Antonio, the TSA guy said "if you want to go lighter, buy a tablet." You don't have to separately show them in a separate tub through the x-ray machine.

Then I found out that if you get the ap, you can use Microsoft word in it. I travel so much, I journal my travel. I can get my email, play a couple of cool games, play solitare, get on fB (I'm kind of a FB addict), read my Nook or kindle books, (some of the magazines in Nook color won't download to iPad, but I don't care for magazines on my Nook color, anyway.)

I'm still learning about it. Found the mute button on the side. I had Best Buy Zagg it for me, cause I was literally afraid to do anything, until the screen was Zagged. That is my number one electronic rule. I did the same with my HTC Sensation, my Ipod touch....etc.

I actually signed up to take a free class at the local Apple store on Tuesday about the basics of it, and productivity. I was in a resturant in Albuquerque, and they ran the entire place on Ipads. I did find out how to text on it, which is very cool. I will never use it for GPS, that's my Garmin or my phone. I considered 3g, but decided I didn't need it, or want to pay the extra bill for it.

I've not even had it for 24 hours yet, and I love it. It will indeed replace a laptop for my travels, and it's so portable, I use it instead of my Nook color. My son has a Macbook, and I have a couple of Ipods. I also have an HP desktop, and a Dell laptop that is about to die. lol. I'm about to sell my Kindle. No need for it. I would love to know how to turn off the darned Facebook notifications in the middle of a song. I've done everything to turn off the fB sound, it drives me nuts. Other than that, I love it!

Hi there and welcome.

Wow, some great into's today and this is yet another one, thank you.

There is lots of good advice and info on here plus plenty of members all too willing to help with any problems.

Remember, search is your friend. If you can't find the answer you need and you post a question then give as much info as you can to help members help you i.e. iPad 1 or 2, iOS version and name of app if the problem is with a specific app........and please don't forget to read the rules http://www.ipadforums.net/forum-rules-help-info/2119-forum-rules-everybody-please-read.html

These are the hacking section rules for all you jail breakers (and would be jail breakers) http://www.ipadforums.net/ipad-hacking/2892-hacking-section-rules-please-read.html

We also have an app for this forum. The link to download the app is: Discussion Forum for iPad Users for iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad on the iTunes App Store

You can download the manual for your iPad here http://support.apple.com/manuals/ and in iBooks search for "iPad user guide for" and you will find free comprehensive manuals for both iOS 4 and 5.

If you have other Apple products or are interested in other Apple kit then why not join our sister forum too at http://www.appleforums.net/
