am new to iPad and have my PPT presentation (6.5 hours all day seminar) working. I need to do a VGA cable to the LCD projector (which I have) but then discovered, there is no way the iPad can run for 7 hours without being charged and doing a presentation. What are my options?

Hello and welcome to the forum! :)

Well, are there going to be any 'breaks' between portions of your seminar, e.g. you could charge the iPad during a lunch break?

If not, you probably need a video-charger adapter that will dock w/ the iPad - just not sure about ones w/ a VGA output - now I've seem some using HDMI (see attached pic) but not sure if your projector has other than VGA input? Plus, video adapters that input and output different signals can be tricky at times!

Mirrowing your iPad via Apple TV is another consideration but would require different hardware - see quote below. Please let us know your solution(s) and hope that others will 'chime in' to help - I'm a retired medical professor and may want to give some Keynote presentations myself but have not tried yet - good luck!

AirPlay Mirroring

Wow your audience in the board room, classroom, or living room. AirPlay now supports video mirroring. Which means you can wirelessly — and securely — stream whatever’s on your iPad 2 or iPhone 4S to your HDTV via Apple TV. Everyone in the room sees exactly what’s on your iPad or iPhone display up on the big screen — even when you rotate your device from portrait to landscape or zoom in and out.[SUP]2[/SUP]
