...Hi, just received an iPad (64G, 4G) and I'm amazed by it :)
Its great reading your threads re the iPad. lots of words used here that I dont know heh heh.
I like to use the iPad for surfing the net mainly. This is the first Apple product that I have used....
I use it to browse the net, email, take photos. hope to work out how to load music on here soon.
Some things I would like to know are:
~ why do i need to link the ipad up to a computer to download stuff if i have space on the ipad?
~ Is it really worthwhile 'jailbreaking' the ipad?
~ i think my firmware is v5.1? how do i get v5.1.1?
~ which is the best gps software to get for use in Australia?
~ do i need internet connection for my pc aswell as the iPad? (re downloads etc)

Thanks,
looking forward to chatting with you,
Gary

Hi Gary and welcome to the Forum!

Have a look at this link for loading music onto your iPad
http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1473

If you want to rip your DVD's or CD's you need to do this on your computer first to download to your iPad. I'm not sure what you really mean with your first question.

A jailbreak has just been released, and this link will explain it all for you.

Updates are able to be done OTA (over the air) now so look in Settings - General - Software Update and it should say that an update is ready for downloading. It's very simple.

There are many GPS apps and it is a personal choice but have a look at Navfree GPS live Australia & New Zealand, as the name suggests, it's free.

Yes you will need a connection on your PC if you are downloading from the net, although movies, music and apps can be downloaded straight to the iPad from iTunes or the app store.
