Apple’s music streaming service, dubbed in some circles the iRadio, is one service we have been hearing about a lot, for a long time, but nothing ever seems to happen regarding it. Finally, a music industry source quoted by The Verge seems to bring hard evidence that the service is still kept alive in Apple development labs.

More than that, users might not have to wait too long for it. The same shady source reveals that the Cupertino giant is moving things along in order to launch the iRadio as soon as this summer.

When released, the iRadio will finally be Apple’s answers to popular music streaming alternatives like Pandora and Spotify. With the iPhone 5S and the next generation iPad possibly being released on the June 20 event, one can’t help but wonder if Apple is not going to make a little room for iRadio, as well.

There have been reports that Apple was cruising record labels looking for deals, but things haven’t been going smooth. Offers have ranged between 6 cents per 100 songs but apparently Apple doesn’t consider this a good deal.

For comparison, Pandora pays up to 12 cents per 100 songs, exactly the double of what Apple was offered. Spotify is doing even worst, paying 35 cents per 100 songs streamed. The New York Post reports, however, that the industry standard is set at 21 cents per 100 songs, so how can Apple hope to do better than 6 cents per 100 songs? If all goes well, however, we’ll be able to find out when iRadio launches.

Now all that's left is for Apple to make the iCar fueled only by apps.
