Charging the iPad

Why do I get the message not charging in the right hand corner by the battery icon, but I hear the sound when plugging in to a wall socket?

Are you using an iPad charger? Some chargers, and USB connectors on computers, don't supply the required amperage to charge the iPad at the correct rate. Although they will still trickle charge, there is insufficient power to convince the iPad to show the charging symbol.
