You might remember that a while ago we reported a similar story. According to the Agawi TouchMark test, the iPhone 5 had a much faster touchscreen than the Galaxy S4 or the HTC One, being the absolute leader in this field. Now, Agawi has decided to do the same test on tablets. The company has used various tablets for the TouchMarks study, including Microsoft's Surface, Amazon's Kindle and Android tablets by Nvidia, Samsung and Google's Nexus tablet built by Asus. Of course, the iPad Mini and the iPad 4 were also included.

Unsurprisingly, Apple's iPad mini had the lowest Minimum App Response Time (MART), with a result of only 75 milliseconds. The fourth-generation iPad took the second place with 81 ms while the fastest Android tablet was the NVIDIA Shield gaming device with 92 ms. The Galaxy Tab 3 tookly only the last place, with a disappointing result of 168 milliseconds.

Agawi mentioned the following in their blog post:

In a result that's perhaps now unsurprising, the iOS devices are more responsive than its competitors. Interestingly, the iPad mini – with its smaller screen and 1024×768 resolution – performs similarly to the larger fourth generation iPad and its 2048×1536 resolution, suggesting that responsiveness is not reduced by the larger screen size or resolution. Our previous speculations continue to apply – more responsive devices may process touches earlier in the stack, poll for touches more frequently or have touchscreens optimized or calibrated to be more responsive. In our latest review of our test apps, we discovered an optimization that suggests that the GPU or GPU drivers in the devices might also add significant latency.

Just like in its test with the smartphones, Agawi used a 240fps high frame rate camera and a custom-built device called a Touchscope. What can you tell? Do you feel that the iPad has a faster screen response time when you switch from another tablet? Let us know by leaving your comment.
