background apps, how can i delete them

when double clicking the on/button, i get almost all the sites i visited, and can scroll through them to go back on, BUT, how do I delete all those sites, i also went in to Safari and deleted history, but these bacground sites still show up..

Hi, Dave! Welcome to iPF!

In iOS 6, you tap and hold an app icon until they start to wiggle, and can delete them afterwards.
In iOS 7, you have to slide the pictures above the app icons towards the top of the screen to get rid of them. This way:
