When I play video in any app or browser, the app crashes and returns to the home screen. In iTunes looking at movie trailers, using Chrome or Safari playing ebeaded videos, Weather Chanel app playing animated maps. It does not happen every time, but often enough to be irritating. I am looking for ideas for a fix.

Try closing down some of the apps running in the background. The problem you describe suggests a memory issue.

Four finger swipe up the screen to reveal the multitask bar.

Long press on any app in the list until a minus sign appears.

Touch the minus sign on each app to close it.

Four finger swipe down the screen to return to normal.

I am either having problems 4 finger swiping, or it doesn't work on iPad1? Alittle more description? I have power cycled and had the issue directly after. Wouldn't that shut down open apps?

If you don't have iOS 5.x installed, then you can't use the four-finger swipe up "trick." So, to reveal the apps that were running, press the Home button twice. Your screen will appear to rise and it will reveal all the icons in the multitasking bar (Apple calls it a shelf, I believe). Then, you can follow the steps to delete them (they won't delete from your iPad). After you've fully closed the ones you wish, press the Home button once to return to the normal screen.
