Although Apple seems to be doing a good job of getting new iPad units onto the shelves, AppleInsider reports that it could possibly be doing an even better job, according to KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, who has told them that currently only Samsung is able to supply Apple with Retina displays for the new iPad, having been Apple’s sole supplier for the displays since launch, and set to remain so until the second quarter of this year, when Kuo says that LG Display will also start to manufacture Retina displays for the new iPad along with Samsung. Kuo goes on to say that even after LG Display starts making the Retina displays, Samsung will still be Apple’s mains supplier for the screens for the new iPad, for the simple reason that other companies, who would doubtless love to be taking care of such a lucrative contract, have in fact been unable to make Retina displays that are of sufficient quality to satisfy Apple’s high standards. Kuo adds that this is the reason why Sharp will not be able to supply Retina displays for the new iPad until the third quarter of 2012.
