Black Friday has already ended, and many have rushed to make use of iPad Black Friday deals at Target, Best Buy, Staples and Walmart because Apple's own Black Friday deals for US and Canada consumers included only gift cards and not product discounts. According to data provided by InfoScout’s consumer research report that included interviews from the first 3,000 shoppers at Target on Thanksgiving and Black Friday, Apple’s iPad was the most acquired product.
The top three items sold at Target were all iPads, and the top 30 items sold were all consumer electronics devices. The report shows that Apple's products accounted for 22 percent of Target’s early sales, and iPads alone were 18 percent of Target’s sales. This represents 10 times the sales of Android tablets at Target. Did you catch any of these sweet deals?
Earlier this week we were reporting that the iPhone 5s is selling better than any previous iPhone, according to usage data provided by Fiksu, a company which tracks iOS usage through its SDK. Now, the same company is releasing new data according to which, sales of iPad Mini 2 with Retina display have caught up or even surpassed already those of the original iPad Mini. First discovered by Chuck Jones from Forbes, here's a breakdown of the provided iPad Mini usage data:
According to Fiksu's graph, the Retina mini was at 0.38% on Monday, last week, but by now it has probably surpassed the procentage that the iPad Mini has had last year. Fiksu also provides data related to the iPad Air performance vs the iPad 4, but this is probably not news for many, as it is known how popular the "iPad 5" really is:
Fiksu’s latest graph shows that the Retina mini was being used on 0.33% of all iPads as of Sunday, twelve days after it was launched, vs. the original mini which was at 0.34% of all iPads a year ago. Since the Retina mini could only be bought on-line or with a reservation at a store until Friday I am pleasantly surprised that the Retina mini has established itself so well in less than two weeks.
If you were in luck, then you probably bought the iPad Mini 2 or the original iPad Mini at a very good price for Black Friday as there were great deals at Target, Best Buy, Staples and Walmart. Let us know by leaving your comment below.
Fiksu’s latest graphs also indicate that of the iPads that have its SDK the Air is showing up on 2.42% of them vs. the iPad 4 at 0.66% 23 days after initial shipments or 3.7x as often (2.42% divided by 0.66%). When you combine the iPad’s Air and Retina mini’s usage of 2.75% (2.42% plus 0.33%) vs. the iPad 4’s and original mini’s 1.00% (0.64% plus 0.34%) the new iPads are showing up 2.75x as often at the same point in time.

Unfortunately for those who were looking to buy discounted Apple products, this hasn’t happened, as Apple has included gift cards rather than offering its longed-for devices at a reduced price.
Unlike its Black Friday deals for customers in U.S, Canada, Australia or New Zealand, Apple is discounting products instead of handing out gift cards in some European countries which shows Cupertino is tailoring this years sales based on specific geographic demands. Here are some examples of discounts from Apple’s UK store.

Just like it was previously thought, Apple’s Black Friday deals for customers from the United States and Canada don’t include discounted products, but gift cards. Apple's Black Friday deals for U.S. and Canada include a $75 Apple Store gift card to iPad Air buyers and a $50 gift card for non-Retina iPad mini or iPad 2 customers that you have to spend in the same Apple Store.
If you are looking to buy a Mac, then you can expect $150 gift cards from Apple for MacBook Pros, MacBook Airs and iMacs. iPod touch purchases will come with a $50 gift card purchase, while the iPod nano and Apple TV will get you only a $25 card.
For buying the AirPort Extreme and Time Capsule you will get a $50 gift card and various accessories that can be found in Apple’s Store could also have gift cards. What’s bad is that iPhones do not qualify for the gift card program. We've put all the deals below for easier access.

Ever since it was launched for consumers, the iPad Mini 2 has been plagued with supply constraints caused by the bottlenecks encountered by components makers for the iPad mini with Retina display. Finally, a new report from DigiTimes claims that the production issues have been solved, saying that Apple has ordered nearly 4 million iPad mini units with Retina for shipments in November, according to Taiwan makers.
Max Wang and Joseph Tsai with DigiTimes say the following:
According to DigiTimes’ sources,. Apple's orders for the iPad mini with Retina have already surpassed those for the first-generation iPad mini, which just confirms the huge popularity that the device is enjoying. In-store availability of the Retina iPad Mini models has recently improved quite a bit for Apple’s US retail stores so this shows the supply problem is apparently being taken care off.
As bottlenecks in making components for the iPad mini with Retina have gradually been removed, Apple has increase orders in November to nearly four million units, according to Taiwan-based supply chain makers. Currently, Apple's orders for the iPad mini with Retina have already surpassed those for the first-generation iPad mini, the sources noted.
As for the iPad Air, because the supply chain had a longer preparation time, the device is seeing much more stable supply compared to previous-generation devices when launched, the sources said. Shortages of Retina displays were the main reason causing the iPad mini to suffer from tight supply since manufacturing a 7-inch Retina display is more difficult than a 9.7-inch one, the sources explained. Because of the issue, the iPad mini with Retina did not become available in retail channels until mid-November.
Following a promise made nearly one year ago, Honda has now announced that it is bringing Apple’s Siri Eyes Free integration feature to three of its car models - the 2013-2014 Honda Accord, and the 2013 Acura RDX and ILX. Honda has plans to bring the feature to more vehicles as soon as next month and will continue in the beginning of the next year.
The Siri Eyes Free feature is available as a dealer installed accessory and allows you to perform a number of functions safely whilst driving without having to touch your iPhone. You can tell Siri to send and text messages or emails, create calendar events and reminders, activate turn-by-turn navigation and more. Also, Siri Eyes Free keeps the display of your iPhone or iPod off during tasks so it wouldn’t distract the driver.
Art St. Cyr, vice president of product planning and logistics, American Honda, said the following:
General Motors has also announced recently that it is bringing support for Siri Eyes Free to select 2014 car models, but the company hasn’t yet made public the information.
Honda recognizes the power of Siri Eyes Free to meet connectivity and convenience needs of its customers in a responsible manner. With technology becoming further integrated into people’s lives, we are happy to provide next-generation connectivity and meet our customer’s ever-changing needs.
The Portland Trail Blazers basketball team has registered a 102-91 victory over the New York Knicks on Monday, and that’s when players from the Portland Trail Blazers team were seen using iPads on the bench to study in-game footage. The players are saying that this has helped carry the team to its eleventh consecutive win.
Paul Allen’s team owns the third-best record in the league and is currently riding an impressive 11-game winning streak and its seems that Apple’s iconic tablet is also playing a role in this ongoing success. Ben Golliver with BlazersEdge further details:
Portland Trail Blazers’ players explain how the iPad study helps them in their game:
If you think you've seen the Blazers looking at iPads on the bench during games, your eyes are not deceiving you. Multiple members of the team are indeed viewing game tape on the bench, during games, with an eye towards strategic adjustments.
A quick survey of Portland's key players on this subject produced some interesting results. Lillard, Matthews, Batum and LaMarcus Aldridge all said that they are using iPads for help during games. Interestingly, they are pursuing individual approaches when it comes to what footage they want to watch, and they also have personal preferences about when and how they view the on-demand footage.
If this iPad scouting method during basketball games will prove to be useful, then it might become the norm in the NBA over the next few years.
It does [help] because you get to see it [again], and in the game everything happens so fast," Matthews, who finished with 17 points (on 6-for-14 shooting) and 6 rebounds, told Blazersedge. "You ask yourself, 'Did I rush it? I felt like I rushed it.' [The video can tell me] when I'm in that same situation -- off a flare screen, when Nic [Batum] passes over the top -- [if] I have more time to get the shot off or [if] I have to shoot it at that speed again. Or, could I have driven it?
