This thread describes the app, available free for iOS and Android devices, used for controlling Yamaha's range of AV amplifiers.

The app may be downloaded for Apple iOS devices from the App Store here and for Android devices here. A full list of supported hardware is available on the manufacturers site.

The app replaces the remote control supplied with Yamaha receivers, and allows full control of the hardware over wifi.

The app has support for multi-zone receivers, allows input selection and DSP selection via tabs on the side or bottom of the screen. Volume can be controlled via a popup wheel. Various options are also available from the Option tab.

It is almost inevitable that a remote control will become unwieldy, given the huge array of features available on AV receivers. Multiple inputs, DSP modes and speaker configurations result in vast amounts of tiny buttons, which can be difficult to use, especially in the darkened environment of a home theatre.

The Yamaha remote has numbered buttons for the HDMI, audio and AV inputs. Try remembering which of those 13 inputs control a particular device. The app allows the inputs to be renamed, a vast improvement.

If you do not require a service, it may also be removed from the app, such as the streaming services Rhapsody, SiriusXM, Pandora and Spotify.
