Hi

I want to connect my ipad to my Hifi equipment wirelessly.
I use XBMC and i stream my FLAC's from my NAS, currently i connect my hifi in via the headphone socket but it would be nice if i could control my music from my couch or another room. I am after some sort of lossless wireless reciever i can connect stright to the hifi that i can control from the iPad.

I have found a few Apple branded devices but i have been told they will only work in iTunes, which is not an option.
I have been looking at the bluetooth devices but they all use compression which is defeating the purpose of using lossless music files.

Does such a device exist?

Cheers

Yes the 'Apple Airport Express' can be connected to your Hi-Fi.

This is a wireless option(Airplay), with great sound quality.

The airport express has a 3.5mm audio out. The socket also doubles as a digital output, so you can connect it to an external DAC if you want to (the best option for high quality FLAC files). The link is of high quality, better then bluetooth.

It's not cheap (RRP £79 in the UK), however it's also a decent dual-band 802.11n wireless router, that can also extend the range of your wireless network etc. You do not need iTunes to make it work, there is a direct(airplay) connection between the iPad and the Express.

Thanks iDuffer

Got it all working, it does tend to drop out from time to time though

Interesting, it shouldn't drop out. Have you tried connecting to the 5GHz channels only? I achieved this on my express by using the Airport utility and giving the 5GHz network a different name.

I came across this thread whilst searching for inormation on the very samesubject. I currently use my iPad2 to stream flac files from an old pc using oPlayer, and I also use the iPad to listen to radio stations. So, if I understand things correctly, I could plug the Airport express in to my audio pre-amp and listen to both the flac files streamed via the ipad and the radio. Does the fact that I stream from a pc complicate things? Thanks for the advice on this subject. Martin
