Bloomberg Businessweek reports today that Walmart, the world’s biggest retailer, may soon be selling the iPad in some of its American stores.
“We anticipate being able to have the iPad later this year,†Gary Severson, senior vice president of entertainment for Walmart’s U.S stores, told Businessweek during a telephone interview, although he wouldn’t be drawn on exactly when this would be happening, or how much Walmart would be selling the iPad for.
Severson was speaking ahead of a press release issued by Walmart this morning which announced that it would be adding new hi-tech devices to its stores, including more streaming Blu-ray Players than ever before, and new Internet-ready HDTVs and LED TVs from popular brands such as LG, Samsung, Sony and Vizio. Walmart customers can also expect to find a much-expanded wireless networking department, including more products to help customers affordably create multiple wireless connections in the home. Sounds like the iPad could fit in perfectly here, especially bearing in mind the following press release quote from Severson:
“Starting this month, customers will discover more high quality Internet-ready home entertainment products, new wireless technologies and new mobile devices in stores and online that offer simple, affordable solutions for creating a more connected life.â€
