When you get the problem sorted it might be worth considering a magnetic usb connector. I’ve been using one on my iPad Pro for a year or so now and it works really well. It’s worth spending a little more though as some of the cheap ones are not very strong. It has the benefit of not allowing ‘muck’ into the usb socket. I had to leave them some way apart in the second pic as they kept springing together

I got a bunch of those for my USB c charging devices. The ones I got, the part shown on the right is different, it is a right angle adapter so when attached the cord does not stick out from the device, but drops parallel to the edge, much less chance of knocking it off. also from Amazon

I also got some magnetic connectors, but mine connect at a right angle so no cord sticking straight out. Much less of a chance to knock it off.

I always charge my iPhone now using Magsafe so I purchased a pack of silicon usb port covers from Amazon which includes plugs and covers for all types of usb ports. I now keep a cover on my phone’s usb c port which stops any debris from accumulating in it…….

I got enough of those usb c magnetic connectors for every device that is usb c. I also got one for my wife's iphone which is still lightning.
I was out of town last week and have a bag with a couple of chargers and a collection of cables. I did discover one cable would not charge anything, from either charger so in the trash it went
