I am getting a free 16GB iPad(1) WiFi-only as part of a sales promotion. Does anybody know if an Apple store will let me take it (new, unopened) in and trade for a 32 GB WiFi+3G model and pay the difference? I know that iPad2s are in short supply and would be out of the question.

There's quite an active market for iPad1s too, so you might also be able to sell it on eBay. There are quite a few potential iPad users who feel that the iPad1 is just fine for them and are taking advantage of the lower prices for the iPad1 at the moment.
