MacRumors reports that The New York Times has today announced details of its digital subscriptions packages. According to MacRumors this means that The New York Times has agreed to Apple’s in-app subscription program, whereby Apple takes 30 % of revenue. The web-based subscriptions will kick off on March 28, with the iPad and iPhone in-app subscriptions packages starting on June 30.

The pricing structure is as follows: Access to NYTimes.com including smartphone access will cost $15 for four weeks, whereas the same NYTimes.com access plus iPad app access will cost $20 per four weeks. If you want NYTimes.com access plus smartphone and iPad access, the cost will be $35 for four weeks. There will also be special discounts offered when the service launches, according to MacRumors.

Meanwhile, if you don’t fancy any of those options, you can still have free access to up to 20 stories per month on NYTimes. com, and if you happen to have clicked on a link from a search engine or a social media site to reach an article, you will still be able to read the whole of said article for free, without it counting towards your monthly limit. The “Top News†part of the site will remain free also, and if you subscribe to the print version of the paper, all digital access will be free.
