First, love my ipad2 but my husband's truck was broken into and my iPad was stolen.
Can it be reported to Apple so it cannot be activated? I have my serial number. It was my school districts and I am paying out of my pocket to have it replaced!

I think this would help discourage theft of these types of items! Please let me know!

Yes you can. As well as you find my I device from your own CPU to wipe it clean.

Apple hasn't been consistently locking stolen iPads, but you can try asking them after you've filed a police report. They will not act without one.

If you previously installed and can activate Find My iPad, some police agencies will try to help you track it. But that requires the iPad to be online (and not yet wiped by the thief). You also can remotely wipe data if you installed Find My iPad before the theft. But that only protects your data from theft and doesn't help with tracking.

In some countries, carriers will record the IMEI number of stolen devices and block them, but it varies from country to country. And thieves can work around that if they're savvy enough.

With iPads, recovery after theft is a long shot. They should be secured as you'd secure a purse or wallet.
