Well, we didn’t see this coming. While some universities are busy handing out iPads to be explicitly connected to their student’s livelihood, it seems that some of the largest universities in the United States have turned the other cheek, and have actually banned the iPad from their wireless networks.

That wireless network part should sound familiar. On Wednesday we reported that Israel was restricting iPad access to its entire country, due to WiFi security issues. It looks like George Washington University, Princeton University, and Cornell University have all sited wireless Internet security issues as being the reason for the restriction of the iPad on their campus locations.

According to The Wall Street Journal, Princeton has blocked 20% of iPads from its network, after they realized malfunctions could result in a breakdown of the school’s computer system. And George Washington University says that their current wireless securities don’t permit the iPad, iPhone, or the iPod Touch even connect. Considering this news, we’re wondering how long it will be before Seton Hill University follows suit, or if they’ve prepared for this kind of security issue.

yes, possibly not the Apple products which are unsecure, but more likely the IT-staff, who is responsible for security.

Once the students start complaining and more and more Ipads start showing up on campus-they will have to change their policy.

Don't think so, as many of the students already have plenty of iPhones and iPod-Touches.

It is a matter of how long they want to keep the blindfolds up......

I believe it is not necessary to ban iPad on universities. There is no point on banning this gadget and for sure it will be useful for a lot of students also.
