There have been rumors circling the web about every single aspect of the next generation iPad. Will it have a wider screen? Will it sport some interesting technology? Will it be thinner? How will the camera be improved? Will it be lighter? And so on…For today’s menu we have the display. We have heard word that the Sharp IGZO display did not make it into the final list of Apple’s possible prospects. Even if back then we thought the faith has been sealed for the Sharp IGZO, Display Search Japan analyst Charles Annis claims otherwise.

He stated that Sharp is mass producing the IGZO displays already, but that Apple is the unpredictable pawn in the equation and that one can never be sure what Apple decides to do. Even so the IGZO flat-panel display is one of the kind at the moment, and since Apple likes to innovate he sees no reason, why the company won’t be accepting the technology into its iPad 3.

IGZO offers more electron mobility which translates into more current being run through the thin-film transistor. That means that the thin-film transistors will be getting smaller and smaller, thus allowing more light to enter the back of the display.

But doesn’t the fact that Apple is already working with Korean display manufacturers be a problem? Not according to Annis who stated that Apple already handled such an issue in the past when it used different panel technologies on a single product, but kept its mouth shut about it. The IGZO panels could be used for one region and the silicon based ones in another. Problem solved.

The iPad 3 is expected to have a 9.7-inch 2048 x 1536 resolution LCD, which is a major improvement from the iPad 2’s 1024 x 768 panel
