Safari dies on ipad1 but not ipad2 or iphone

We have an application that works just fine on safari on an ipad2 and iPhone but for some reason on ipad1 it initially loads but almost any interaction causes it to crash the browser.

Any clues as to where to start looking would be appreciated

The iPad1 only has half the RAM of the iPad2. So, to help alleviate the problem, it's a good idea - if this is a persistent problem - to free up some RAM before launching Safari. The easiest way to do this is to completely switch off the iPad - by pressing and holding the Power button until the slider control appears. This process causes the iPad's operating system, iOS, to 'reclaim' and consolidate 'lost' RAM and will therefore make the maximum amount available to Safari.

Thanks Tim,
I think that if this is the problem and safari just gives up then I need to find a way to programmatically achieve the same result, power cycling is not really an explanation we can give to our Board of Directors.

There is an app called XSysInfo that did this for you. However, in a recent upgrade, that 'clearing RAM' function was removed because it used an undocumented API (Application Programmer Interface) and Apple made the Developer remove it. Many of us who have XSysInfo did not upgrade so that we could retain this very useful function, which has the same effect as a power cycling operation.
