After 47 years working with IBM and Win-Tel computers, I just bought an iPad.

As has happened so often, I am a beginner yet again. A simple function like 'back' for a browser or 'close' for an open file requires that I turn the iPad off and on again.

Those functions just have to be here somewhere.

All friendly suggestions welcomed; thanks in advance.

You can close any open app by pressing the home button once.
Your browser "back" button is the triangular arrow in the top left corner of Safari.

Here's a few more.

A four finger pinch will close the current app.
Four finger swipe across the screen will cycle between open apps.
Four finger swipe up the screen will open the "recent apps" bar.
One finger swipe from the top bezel down the screen will open Notifications.

Does Google Chrome have an equivalent?

(I noticed when I misspell a word while typing, a correct spelling suggestion appears. I try tapping that expecting my partially typed error to be replaced by the correct word, but nothing happens. Is this the expected behavior?)

As soon as the correction appears you can tap Space and the correction will replace your text.

Don't know about Chrome. I deleted it the day I installed it. Preferred Safari.

I'll watch your thread. I'm going offline now.

"Tap space". OK I will.

Thanks,

Jim
