I just downloaded and updated my iPad 2 with iOS 6. When I right clicked on my iPad in iTunes I did NOT see a drop down menu with the option to restore using backup. The only option I had was to Restore to Factory Settings, which then asked me "Are you sure you want to restore the iPad “Me's iPad 2†to its factory settings? All of your media and other data will be erased." which of course didn't sound like a good idea bc I would lose all my apps and other data.
I searched far and wide, on forums, on Apple's website, etc. but found no answer other than telling me to right click my iPad in iTunes and choose "Restore from Backup", which I couldn't see. I called Apple help and here's what they told me to do (which worked):
Go ahead and Restore to Factory Settings (takes about 15-25 min.)
Then you can choose the Restore from Backup option

You probably didn't have a backup to restore from. Restoring to Factory usually creates a backup in the process; if I remember right. It has been a while since I've needed to do this. That is probably the backup you restored to.

No way to be certain now, but next time you can to to iTune's Preferences, the Devices tab and make sure you have a backup to be restored from; and the date (which could be important). ;)
