Remote control an iPAD

Hi all,

I am a newbie here and need assistance. I have a brain injury and I am doing regular walking exercises to help my rehab. My specialist wants me to video my walking style regularly using iPad. There's the rub. I have to put it on the floor to
Video my feet and can not reach down to turn thr video app on and off without getting friendly assistance.

What I need is a simple remote control device to switch the iPad video recorder on and off. Has anyone heard of such a thing. There are lots of apps to allow the iPad to control TV and the like, but none to just control an iPad. and certainly not an independent device that doesn't need another IOS unit to make it work.

Well, it's kind of hokey, but this might work:

Apple's headsets, or any headset with an integrated volume control, can be used as a shutter. The volume up button will work to take pictures or start/stop video. Add an extension cord and it should be long enough for you to stand up and operate the iPad. But to be certain, make sure the extension has all four of the conductors, not just the usual three that work with plain earphones.

If you're not very tall maybe you can even do without the extension cord.

I think you can also do it with a Bluetooth headset, as long as it has a volume control button.

Thanks for such an interesting solution. I have one more tech question: the only headphones I have with volume adjusting on the headphone are also wireless. So if this will work I could have the perfect solution. To help get my head around what should happen what manual actions can I use to reproduce what the volume switch would do?

I believe the volume up button should work whilst in the camera app.

I have no idea, and nothing to test with. One way of thinking says yes, it is after all the volume control. Another says not, because increasing the power/volume on the iPad won't supply more power to the headset, so why would it affect the volume on the iPad itself?

But as long as you have it you might as well pair the headset with the iPad and see what happens.

Please let us know the results if you do, and the model of the headset for reference.

If you have an iPhone or an iPod Touch, there are a few apps that can remotely control the camera from one device to the other...

I tried with my Bluetooth ear piece, but it does not work (at least on my iPhone)...
