Remember when "Pad" meant something else?

I had a chat with some friends a few days ago about marketing and brands. It occurred to me that the word "Pad" is now so related to the iPad that we kind of forgot that it meant "a protection device" like on a goalie in a hockey game and ( don't even go there with this subject... ) col.Bris admin

Now, when I hear someone saying the word "Pad", I have an urge to answer by saying "you mean iPad?"...

Note pad in my world to maybe that just a British thing though.

Ditto but I'm not British .
"pad and pen" or "pad and pencil" is what I think of. I still hear " tablet" in my mind when it comes to the iPad

In my world "pad" isn't a reference to iPad. Even if we're talking about iPad, I've never heard of it referred to simply as "pad". Are you sure you're not trying to put a new term in the the lexicon of tech terms?
