Once updating to iOS5 iPad now randomly closes out apps while I'm in them and goes back to main screen. Any solutions? I've done the update twice but still same problem (this is the third time ive tried to get this message done!)

Hi to the both of you and welcome to the Forum!

In regard to the issues you're both having, try these steps :-
Do the four finger swipe up to reveal your multi task bar along the bottom. It will show all the apps that you have opened at one time or another. Long press one of these apps until they start to jiggle and red minus signs will appear above them all. Press all the minus signs, this will close them, not delete them. It's a good idea to do this regularly just to keep them all running smoothly, I do mine every night. Check and see if it is operating now. if not a restart is in order.

Restart: Press and hold the power off button, the one at the top right. You will see a slide appear to power off, slide this and the screen will go dark and a Whirly will appear. When the Whirly disappears your iPad is now off. Press the power button again until the Apple logo appears, this will take a few seconds and your iPad will start again. You should restart your iPad occasionally also as it will keep it running smoothly. Now see if it is operating. If not a reset is the next step.

Reset: Hold the power off button and the home button simultaneously, keep holding them in and you will see the power off slide appear and disappear, wait until you see the Apple logo appear before releasing the buttons. It will take a little longer for your iPad to start. This is a reset.

When your iPad begins to behave strangely these are the first steps you should do to rectify it. Let us know how you go, good luck!!

iOS 5 was mainly designed for iPad 2 and iPhone 4s, which both have way more RAM than iPad 1. So, the RAM is more full of system stuff with less room available for apps to occupy when they are open.

Ah! Useful to know. I wasn't aware I should be doing that. Hanks

Me too. In between the upgrading, it would stop and then "WOULD NOT ABLE TO CONTINUE UPGRADING. SERVER CONNECTION TIMED OUT." - always like that. Been experiencing this since the time i tried to upgrade my iPad 1. Please help suggest what should i do. During this time, even if it states that the server connection has timed out, i can even surf using safari or watch youtube videos.

so being that all the updates and apps are focused on the new I tablets and phones my ipad1 is now just a brick? it works fine now but will it start having more and more issues over the next 4 months? does this mean that this iPad I bought with my hard earned money just last year will be worthless around July?

I also updated to iOS 5 and am having problems that many others have not just on this forum but google it.

so now I have to go spend another 500.00 for more power? BS

if this is the case well ladies and gents. spend 300 on a windows based laptop I think it will last longer then 2 years!

yes I'm venting,

how about a buy up trade in programe mr apple

That's pretty much how technology goes. In a year it is obsolete. Whatever brand you buy.

Obsolete? That depends on how hard you want to ride that bleeding edge...:)

My Macbook is 4 years old and doing just fine by me. I never updated from Leopard. My 1-year old iPad1 will hopefully last me just as long. Unless I discover good reasons for attempting an upgrade (eg, security issues), I plan to keep it on iOS4.3. I'm even about keeping my new android phone as Gingerbread rather than updating to ICS. I generally try to chronologically match software to hardware.

I realize this is not a popular approach and am ready to be mocked. :-D
