Problem with artwork in id3 tags not showing up in the media player

I sometimes have a problem when I try to add artwork to my music files after adding them to my iPad 3, because even though it shows the artwork is added to the tag, my media player refuses to show the artwork when playing the file. Does anyone know why this occurs, and how to correct the problem?
