she's not a forum-type person and expects me to have all the answers. i'm getting her an ipad and workin' it so it's ready for xmas....so, HI!!!

i've been a staunch pc guy all my life but i must say, visiting the apple store was a pleasant discovery. the friendliness of the ipad is very nice. i think she'll like her ipad!

anyway, i started the ipad update to 5.x and i must say it's been annoyingly slow to complete. it is currently in the middle of restoring the apps i sinstalled and i'm kinda worried she might wake up and see this in the middle of restoration :D

WHAT IS UP WITH THIS UPDATE. it seems to have done a virtual reinstall of EVERYTHING on the ipad. wow,,,what a long time. 15 minutes now and it's 35% done installing the apps,,,AND MY WIFE WAKES UP IN 15 MINUTES.

Hi there and welcome.

Throw a blanket over it!

There is lots of good advice and info on here plus plenty of members all too willing to help with any problems.

Remember, search is your friend. If you can't find the answer you need and you post a question then give as much info as you can to help members help you i.e. iPad 1 or 2, iOS version and name of app if the problem is with a specific app........and please don't forget to read the rules http://www.ipadforums.net/forum-rules-help-info/2119-forum-rules-everybody-please-read.html

These are the hacking section rules for all you jail breakers (and would be jail breakers) http://www.ipadforums.net/ipad-hacking/2892-hacking-section-rules-please-read.html

We also have an app for this forum. The link to download the app is: Discussion Forum for iPad Users for iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad on the iTunes App Store

You can download the manual for your iPad here http://support.apple.com/manuals/ and in iBooks search for "iPad user guide for" and you will find free comprehensive manuals for both iOS 4 and 5.

If you have other Apple products or are interested in other Apple kit then why not join our sister forum too at http://www.appleforums.net/

Finally, if you still haven't had enough, how about a video explaining about our other forums (note:you may want to play this at half speed but hey, why shouldn't Phil be excited about our forums!)

Hi and welcome to the Forum!

This update was a particularly large one, but you'll love all the new features that come with it. I sure hope it finishes on time! So did you throw a blanket on it as Gabriel suggested? Lol. I'm sure your wife is just going to love it and you for buying her this wonderful piece of technology.

A very informative thread from which you will learn many tips and shortcuts for the IPad.

Enjoy!

hi again. back with a question or two

just a few questions i think might be hard to search for.

after connecting the ipad, and right clicking device/ipad in itunes, there are a few options i wanted to ask about.

1...what is the "backup" option for??? when the ipad is auto-synced to itunes, ISN'T IT ALREADY BACKED UP SOMEWHERE ON THE COMPUTER?
2...on a similar note, i was watching a youtube demo by this kid who was explaining how to backup apps to the computer. it was standard stuff as he simply drag/dropped all his apps on view in itunes/library/apps to a folder he created on his computer. AGAIN, same question,, why is he bothering? aren't they already backed up in itunes? if not, is itunes functioning as a go-between of some sort?
3...lastly...when i "delete" an app on the ipad, it's still available when i access the app store on the ipad, but with a cloud icon on the lower right. are the deleted apps stored in the cloud?...because i didn't set anything up, and the cloud shows that it's totally empty when i access icloud/storage and backup.

thanks again. :eek::eek::eek:
