Reuters reports today that Apple’s Phil Schiller has spoken out in defence of the iPad mini’s entry-level price point of $329. Reuters says that while some people have complained that the price is too high, Schiller says that he thinks that customers will be prepared to pay more for a high-quality device.

"The iPad is far and away the most successful product in its category,†Schiller told Reuters. “The most affordable product we've made so far was $399 and people were choosing that over those devices. And now you can get a device that's even more affordable at $329 in this great new form, and I think a lot of customers are going to be very excited about that."

Reuters reports that some analysts on Wall Street expressed concern that the iPad mini might be too expensive for some consumers. However, in a separate report, AppleInsider notes that the likes of Chris Whitmore of Deutsche Bank said that they still thought that the iPad mini would perform well, although acknowledging that the price was a “modest disappointment.â€

It's Apple they're not known for cheap inferior products. But they're not going to take a chunk out of Android's small tab market because of the price point.

But it will sell because it's Apple and they built a reputation of high quality devices.
