While installing a refurbished iPad from my iCloud backup, the Apple ID dialog popped with the request for the password of the "EDITED - do not post an email address" account. This is not my account.

Was my backup polluted with a virus? Was the refurb iPad compromised? Apple has not been helpful.

Thanks

It means that the refurbished iPad you acquired is activation locked to the previous owner. There is, unfortunately no way to bypass this requirement.
The only way to set up the iPad with your own account is to have the previous owner remove it from his iCloud account.
Can you contact the person you got the iPad from?

I just dimissed the dialog and proceeded to use my Apple account. It worked (after dealing with the problem of installing from an iPadPro to an iPad) and I am running normally.

Apple’s UI is quite good but their apps and utilities can be really, really frustrating.

Thanks for the info. I don’t need to worry about this anymore.
