Overdrive - Do they listen to users ?

Hi: I'm new here.
I'm curious to know if anyone has ever spoken to a product manager, or anyone for that matter at Overdrive. This is the people who make the Overdrive Media Console app which most library users are forced to use to read books.
I would like to submit suggestions for improvements to the app - but if you navigate to their web site, the Contact page, it clear that they don't want to hear from the rabble. If you're not a library, or a publisher, they don't want to hear from you.

Since my vision is limited, I use the largest fonts available in the Overdrive app.
They're not large enough - for me. Hence, I'm holding the device up so I can read - not comfortable.

When large fonts are used, the app insists on using large vertical spacing between the lines of text. Although this may be good for some readers, it dramatically reduces how much text will fit on a screen.
Why not provide a line spacing control (that works) ?

Navigation: Try this: reading a tome like Game of Thrones, or worse, the four book set. . . For whatever reason, you've lost your place in the book and need to get reoriented. In a paper book, you'd do it by jumping through the text, reading bits to determine if you'd been there already. Overdrive eliminates this possibility.
A means by which the user could navigate to the next/prev chapter would be great.

Just sayin'.

cheers

They don't seem to have a feedback link or form, do they?

Well, they supply a physical/mailing address. You could always old school and send them paper.

It probably would not hurt to write a review in the App Store as well; but please be fair. People who leave one-star reviews on the assumption that they will get more attention are hurting everyone who depends on reviews to make their decisions.

Give it the review you think it deserves. Just make sure your title and the first line mention your concerns for the accessibility issue.

You could also talk to your local library and see if they would send feedback on your behalf. The libraries are the paying customer, so what they say will probably cary more weight.

Hi twerppoet

Thanks for the excellent suggestions.

I'll do the AppStore review today.
I've also noted possible contacts at my library - but based on previous attempts at conversations with the Toronto Public Library, I wont be holding my breath for their responses.

cheers

No problem.

In the case of the libraries, it would be better to approach them as an advocate for accessibility in general than as a personal complaint. If you already have in hand the mail address or link to the correct contact, and even perhaps a well written statement of the problem, you'll have a better chance of success. With the library, anyway. Once you convince someone you have a good cause the next thing it to overcome inertia. An easy solution in hand is the best way to do that.

Not to say any of this is likely to get you a quick response, if any. But at least you will have the satisfaction of having done what could be done.

BTW, in case you did not know, iBooks does a pretty good job with extra large text, and there are quite a few free books in the store. Mostly classics, but you've been meaning to read them anyway, right? ;)

Agreed.
I'd rather start a discussion than submit a rant.
I should mention that aside from the occasional individual that doesn't find the bandwidth to follow through on their commitments, the TPL does a pretty good job.

The classics in iBooks. . . Yes. I started there. I highly recommend Stephen Leacocks, Sunshine Sketches of a Little Town. If you don't laugh, you need to get your laugher serviced.
