Outbox mail won't send - Help changing port from 25 to SSL

My outbox mail won't send and just sits there. I read that changing the port from 25 to SSL when using a foreign network may be a solution. To clarify, if I switch to SSL port when using anything but my home network, the mail will send because it can be authenticated, yes?

I know how to make the change on my macbook pro, but I'm new to my iPad, so I don't know how to change the ports and couldn't find it in settings/mail.

Help please!
