No touch sound/tone on IPad

For some reason I'm no longer getting any tone/sound when I touch an app/icon on my IPad. I have the basic iPad, no jail breaking or any of that stuff. . Up half the night troubleshooting! Please help!

If you are reading this, click twice on the control button on your iPad and swipe on the icons that appear at the bottom until you see the volume and brightness controls. Look at the icon on the left and click on it if it has a slash through it. You should see a small note appear which says mute on. Click again to make it say mute off. Also check the volume control on the right to make sure that the button is on th right or maximum position. Good luck!
