I'm a 75 year old Gent, who has worked with computers for some time. Just recently gave laptop to Granddaughter and purchased an Ipad 2. Have enjoyed getting to know this little machine, but the more I lear about it, the more I want to know, so that is reason I'm here. Also, got disgusted trying to get answers with Apple's Customer Service, not a good experience.

Right now, I'm stumped on how to work with some photos I have on the pad.. Some are under Camera Roll, Some under another folder, and others another folder. I would like to move them all to the Camera Roll, if that is possible as I need to delete a number of them. These were photos sync'd from my PC

Looking forward to getting some responses and getting all I can out of this pad. Right now, just know enough to be dangerous, I'm afraid.

That is a great intro. I can't help you with your photo issues (although the iBook guide mentioned below may give you an insight) but I'm sure one of the great members here can assist.

There is lots of good advice and info on here plus plenty of members all too willing to help with any problems.

Remember, search is your friend. Hi, and welcome to the forum. It's good to "see" you and I hope you enjoy your visits.

Unfortunately, I'm going to have to be a bit of a negative Nellie. As in, you really can't do what you want to do.

For one, any photo you out on the iPad via iTunes cannot be removed from the iPad unless you use iTunes to do it; they cannot be deleted on the iPad itself. And, if you synced over folders from iTunes, those folders cannot be changed (or moved around ... or deleted ... or added to) on the iPad itself either. Everything for which you used iTunes to do on the iPad can only be edited with iTunes.

As far as pictures that are on your iPad that did not get there via iTunes (e.g. you took a photo with your camera or saved a picture from the Internet) - the iPad decides where they go. There is no changing that (mainly because the iPad creates a database of those files - and you changing where they are could/would corrupt the iPad database). So, there is no way to move those pictures around, either.

So, yeah, this annoys a lot of people and is the main reason why there are a lot of photo management apps available (free or paid) in the AppStore. With the stock Photos app, the user has very little control - so a lot of people find another app that will let them organize photos, rename them, move them, delete them ... etc.

An app that I can recommend for management is Photo Manager Pro ($2.99). It'll let you move photos, create albums, delete photos and name photos. It'll even let you take a picture from within the app to save directly into an album of your choosing/making.

But, that's what i've used. Hopefully, other members will be along to chime in with their favorite photo management apps (and tricks).

Sorry to not be of better assistance - but sometimes, we've just got to deal with what Apple "gives" us.

Thanks Marilyn. That's what I was afraid of. Will have to consider some apps sounds like. Wonder if they will improve this with later pads? Mine is a 2.

Oh, I wish! But, I started with an iPad1 and now am using an iPad3 - the stock/default Photos app has been the same. Actually, it's an Apple software (iOS) thing and that also hasn't changed since the iOS 3-something that was running on my iPad1. Here we are on iOS 6.x and Photos is still [essentially] unchanged. Yeah, you can create albums on the iPad now (in the Photos app) but you're not actually moving pictures with that - you're just making links.

/Mini-rant.

So, no, TBH. I don't see it getting better any time soon. IMHO, your best bet IS to find a photo management app you like and then just pretend that stock app isn't there. It's handy for quick looks at pictures you snap with the camera, but that's about it.
