I love the closed nature of iOS.
I'm sick to death running free tech help for family and friend's computers. The iPad just works.

No more tarballs, repositories, virus checkers, malware scanners etc..
Instant on/off and it just does what I want with great portability and long battery life.
People get so frustrated when it doesn't work it the way they expect computers should.
We're moving on.

Absolutely!

I'm not unsavvie, and have been sorting out tech issues on pc's for almost 25 years. So the un-jail broken so called closed iOS on the iPad is a breath of fresh air. For me it does it all.

If it doesn't for you, and the OP seems to be a fair way from his goal, I'd suggest so better original research first before spending your money. Or, wait for the jb

It's even reflected in the attitude of their store staff. They have the art of "smiling smugness" down to a fine art.

.

The Ipad is MY first Apple device but my children have ipods.
One of them broke. There were 100+ customers in the store,I didn't know anything about making an appointment was the rule yet after only a few minutes of looking lost an employee filled me in on the rules, made me an appointment less than an hour forward and was VERY nice, as if I was their only customer and the sole reason the store existed. Once my appointment came up another employee was my rep and again treated me as if I was their sole reason for being open. If that's smug I'll take it.
When my wife's Ipad decided to deny access to her iTunes account the Apple care rep treated me very well, did all the inter department work with other techs and support until my wife's Ipad was fully functional again, sent me several emails with tutorials, links and "call me at extension xxx" if I needed further help. If that's smug I'm ok with smug.
I agree the closed system is frustrating and seems arrogant (to almost do some things but the lock down prevents full use) as well but the build of the products and the support I've gotten makes it ok for my family.
While I'm no fanboy of Apple I am a fanboy of the support staff I've dealt with.
Let me go on record again as stating I HATE ITUNES but my Ipad does almost everything I want it to do and there isn't a better option at this point. A year from now I'll revisit the situation but for now I'm content with my Ipad because of the support staff

This is my first apple product and for the first couple of weeks, I was very frustrated with some of the restricted ways I had to interact with the technology. I've learned to work around it since then, and I haven't jailbroken my iPad, I'm considering doing so but I'm not sure if it would actually provide me with things that are better for me.

I think Steven Jobs is a fantastic individual and he is revolutionizing the way we use technology in our every day lives. However, I'm glad there are other companies out there who can take his break throughs and make them do what I want them to do. I'm in the same boat with Billee, and as soon as there is a better tablet with an OS that will do what I want it to do, I'll switch.

In the mean time, the iPad is a really good device and it does do a lot of amazing things. The interface isn't too terrible to deal with and I will deal with it as long as I must so long as I reap benefits that outweigh the inconvenience.

It's like the lure of Socialism. "Give up your freedoms and you will be taken care of. No more worries."

I'd rather have the freedom to choose what I want to do, even if it entails more work and problem solving.

Now it would have been better coincidence if i had gotten the 3gs like you did, because of multitasking, compass and 256mb ram instead of the puny 128 mb ram i got on my 3g. Cant wait to get the mac book pro or air, prefer the solid state drives which give no heat, no fan and the virus problems i have faced recently on my laptop.

Anyway here i took a picture of my apple devices using my old sony ericsson phone

I saw that too, didn't want to get involved. That was when the rascist rule came in, I think! Not a nice person, but I suppose they will always try it on.
It's up to us to report them and get them kicked off.
