MacRumors reports that the latest version of Major League Baseball’s At Bat iOS app has now gone live, just in time for the start of the baseball season, of course. This latest version of the app gives baseball fans the opportunity to listen to live games on the radio and watch live games on TV, as well as providing the MLB GameDay play-by-play service. Although the app is free to download, that only gets you free access to scoreboards and some news coverage. The real meat of the app can be found in its various paid packages, according to MacRumors.
At the top of the range, you have the MLB.tv Premium service, which costs $124.99 for a season pass, or $24.99 per month via the MLB.tv website, and which offers all live home-and-away TV broadcasts for “out-of-market†games, as well as live game home-and-away radio broadcasts, GameDay play-by-play, in-game highlights, box scores, and lots of stats. MLB.tv Premium subscribers can also watch the service on their Mac or Apple TV as well as iPad or iPhone. Another option that is new to this year’s version of the app is a $24.99 in-app subscription that provides the same services as if ordered via the website, but is billed to your iTunes account. The cheaper option for fans costs $14.99 for a whole season, or $2.99 per month, and provides all the same radio broadcasts and GameDay services as the premium option, minus the TV broadcasts, although the package does provide one free broadcast per day, and “live look-ins†when something significant happens in a game. MacRumors explains that the subscription service has been simplified this year for iOS users, as it now only requires a login to unlock the services on the app once you’ve subscribed online, also saving you the $30 that it cost to purchase iPhone and iPad apps just to access the service last year.
