Hi there-

I have an ipad1 and was wondering how I can sync my Microsoft Outlook with the ipad. I run a business and receive a lot of email that are stored in many folders. I'm constantly on the move and do not want to carry my rather heavy laptop. I wanted to check whether Microsoft Exchange is the solution or are there alternatives. Specifically, I want to know whether all folders on my MO can be viewed and edited on the ipad1 if I were to install the ME.

Thanks in advance for your responses.

Exchange (on the iPad) method of connecting to your email server is useful for any mail server that is compatible. Commonly, many work email servers are Exchange servers, gmail is compatible with the Exchange set-up.

Now you mention Outlook. If you are talking about syncing with already downloaded emails and folder structure on a Windows or Mac, then that sync typically occurs when connecting your iPad to iTunes, as you cannot sync with a local mailbox on your PC in the way people connect to their online mailboxes.

I'm using a pop3 server as of now. Here are my specific questions:

1. Do I need to use an IMAP to connect desktop-server-ipad?
2. Will I be then be able to view and edit folders on the ipad?
3. How many days sync is possible on the ipad?
4. Will any changes then reflect also on the desktop and vice-versa?
5. What about contacts and calendar, will they be imported as well?

Thanks in advance.

1. Yes, it works much better than POP3
2. I believe so.
3. This is a setting that you can change to your liking.
4. Yes, if both are set-up using IMAP
5. Not sure with IMAP, but I suspect you can. Exchange set-up you can.
