A good-looking Mahjong game done well can be a truly compelling gaming experience, so I'm certainly looking forward to FDG Entertainment's iPad-exclusive Mahjong Elements HD appearing on the iPad App Store in the near future, if these gorgeous screenshots are anything to go by.

The game offers over 50 hours of solitaire Mahjong gameplay, with no further in-app purchases required. The menu design and background images were conceived and created together with Feng-Shui experts and other Chinese artists in order to revive the ancient technique of Xiesheng watercolor. It is said that viewers of this art benefit from improved energy flow and lasting mental balance.

There are over 200 layouts featured in the game, an Auto quicksave facility, extensive stat tracking and Achievements. Overall, it sounds really promising, especially with the authentic Feng Shui elements and artwork. No word of price or release date yet as the game has only been submitted to the App Store today for approval.

The tile matching puzzle games are usually called mahjongg.

That said, it's sad that they go to all that effort with the look of the game and then include those side and bottom bars. Feel it would look better if they were designed as pop overs. Still I'll have to wait and see what it's like when approved.

Sidebars

@Hasty: side and bottom bars are optional. It is possible to play the game completely full screen (only tiles and background visible).

cheers
