Wizards of the Coast have taken the opportunity of PAX East to announce Magic The Gathering: Duels of the Planeswalkers 2013 for the iPad, as well as for all major consoles and PC. The game has already been a massive smash hit on the consoles and PC in previous versions, but this will be the first iPad version. Gameplay is all about card collecting and battling, and PocketGamer explains that as usual, this version of the game sees the player nurturing their decks of monster, spell, and mana cards, and then using them to defeat their opponents. Wizards of the Coast isn’t giving much away about the iPad, or indeed any, version of this year’s game as yet, but they say that there will be new decks and new challenges and puzzles to solve, and a brand new boss for the final battle, namely Magic’s ultimate evil mastermind, dragon Planeswalker Nicol Bolas. Also included in the new game are Planechase multiplayer games, following on from the launch of four new Planechase decks on June 1, which introduce the new Phenomenon card type. Wizards of the Coast also say that although Duels of the Planeswalkers is designed to be primarily for players that are new to the Magic universe, some Magic veterans also enjoy playing it, so for them a new option has been added to the game to enable them to have more control in the game by choosing what lands to tap.
And although the game has 2013 in the title, you won’t have to wait that long for it, as it is actually coming out this summer.
