Clearly someone at Telltale Games is feeling generous today, as the episode game experts have decided to release the first installment in their Law & Order: Legacies series for free for a limited time only. There’s method to their generous madness, however, as by giving away the first episode for free, they’re doubtless hoping to tempt us to sign up for the full-season multi-pack bundle containing episodes 2-7 for $12.99, which represents a discount of 30%. Very smart thinking on their part, as the first episode is so absorbing you won’t be able to resist buying more.

If you’re a fan of the TV series, which is TV’s top rated and longest-running police procedural drama, then you’re really going to love this game, as it features the likenesses of iconic Law & Order investigators, including Lennie Briscoe (Jerry Orbach, Law & Order), Rey Curtis (Benjamin Bratt, Law & Order), Olivia Benson (Mariska Hargitay, Law & Order: SVU), and Jack McCoy (Sam Waterston, Law & Order), to form a kind of Law & Order “Dream Team.†In the game, you get to take on the roles of both investigator and district attorney, hitting the streets to gather evidence and then entering the court room to prosecute the case. As in every episode of Law & Order on TV, choice and morality are key factors, and every decision made throughout Law & Order: Legacies will affect the outcome and can lead to multiple endings in each case. Gameplay is very compelling, involving such elements as questioning suspects and then answering questions posed to you by the game correctly in order to earn Stars that go towards your Detective ranking, as well as looking for, and gathering, evidence, and much more besides. It really tests your memory, observation and reasoning. Even if you don’t watch the TV show, and just like police games or mystery games, then this is still a really enjoyable and entertaining game to play. It’s got me hooked already!
