kindle app books in device on ipad won't syn to kindle app on iphone

Hi,

I have several books in the kindle app of my ipad 3. Most seem to be in the "device section" and a few are in the "cloud" section. I just got my kindle app on my iphone up and running and it immediately downloaded all the books that were in the cloud section of my ipad but none that were in the device section. How do I get the books in the device section of my ipad across to the cloud section so they'll sync? I'd like to read on my ipad at home and on my iphone when out and about.

Each of your Kindle devices has it's own email address. You can find it in your Kindle app under Settings.
Try this: send the book you want to sync to your iphone Kindle email address. Open the book. In the upper left corner tap the icon to the right, then this appears:




Choose Email, then this is shown:




Write the email address of your iphone Kindle app and send it. The book is sent to your Kindle app there.

The two lists, Cloud and Device, do not sync between devices.

Device is the list of everything you've downloaded to that device. Cloud is everything available in your Amazon account that has not been downloaded to that device. To download a book to a device, just select it from the Cloud list. You can also send books to individual devices via your Amazon account, but it's not any faster; and if you have the device in your hand it's not more convenient.

The reason these lists to not sync is a matter of flexibility. You may not want every book that you've downloaded on one device taking up space on the other.

What does sync is your place and notes in any book that you have downloaded on both devices. So, if you're reading a book on the iPad, go ahead and select it for download on the iPhone. When you open the book, it will either go to the page you left off on the iPad, or ask you if you want to go to the furthest page opened so far (depending on your reading history).

The only books the will show in the clod section is purchases from Amazon. If you have other books purchsed from another online store, but using the kindle app, these will not sync to the cloud section.

You can put books you've not purchased from Amazon in the Cloud (which represents your account/archive stored on Amazon's servers). You can mail the books (as explained above) or send them from your PC directly. They'll sync just as we'll between devices as if you had bought them at Amazon. They won't in the 'Books" section on your iDevice, they'll show in the "All Items" and "Docs" sections.

Oh, and the Kindle (apps and actual device) will only be able to read these books if they do not have non-Amazon DRM on them (the coding put on to prevent piracy). If they have such DRM from another account/store, they will not work. But, any book with no DRM will work...

If you also have a PC take a look at a program called Calibre. It lets you manage non-DRM books and even allows you to setup a file server to load books to your iDevices over your home network via a web browser. It also converts non-DRM books to multiple formats.
