Just joined this forum because there are always changes going on with the iPads and I am no technician, so I need explanations all of the time. New things that threw me lately--having Bing as my browser all of a sudden--having to put in a code every time I open up--and others. But I love to use this device so I'm eager to learn.

Welcome to the forum.
You can change your default search engine in Settings > Safari > Search Engine. It should have stayed with whatever default you were using in iOS 6, but stuff happens.
You can turn off the passcode in Settings > General > Passcode Lock. The iOS 7 initialization prompted you to create the passcode, but it's not required.
