There are quite a few YouTube videos about bringing back an old iPad by a technique called Jailbreaking. You download a program and jump through hoops and your old iPad comes back to life for new uses. Has anybody done it? My question, after it’s all said and done, is what uses or apps are put on the old one that you don’t already have on your new one? I don’t see the need to run the same apps on two different iPads. What am I missing? I’d love to repurpose mine, but what do I do with it?

You could use it as a media player. Even with jailbreaking, an older iPad may not have the processing power to run newer apps and programs. If it’s very old, it may not even connect to iTunes.

The jailbreak community for iPad's has never been very big, and as far as I know we don't have any members here. If they are, the've been very quiet.

Without looking into it myself I imagine the most likely uses for an older jailbroke iPad would be as a dedicated media player (as scifan said), a digital picture frame, or a dedicated ebook reader (for non DRM books). There are probably other, more niche uses that I can't think of.

With luck, the YouTube video descriptions and comments should lead to links to the communities with answers you seek. Good luck.
