According to 9to5 Mac, the new update is primarily focused on enhancing the experience of both teachers and students who are using the app. The newly updated app has also been tied in with Apple’s new Back to School promotional campaign.
As far as new features for students are concerned, the update makes it easier for students in private courses to ask questions about the course, another post, or an assignment. Other students can also now join in a discussion, and ask questions themselves, or even answer some of the questions posed by other students.
Teachers and students can also be notified about each new question or answer in a specific conversation via push notifications.
As far as teachers are concerned, among several new features are the ability to create and update courses on their iPad via the iTunes U app, the ability to easily capture and upload photos and videos as part of a course, and being able to add materials created via Pages, Numbers, or Keynote to a course via the “Open in iTunes U” option.
