As we reported before, the Apple iPad is getting more popular than ever, infiltrating itself into all possible sectors of human activity such as education or medicine. And this popularity is reflected into the latest IDC Worldwide Quarterly Media Tablet and eReader Tracker.

Apparently 2012 is going to be the glorious year when Apple will get back some of the market share it has lost to Android tablets in 2011 thanks to devices like the Amazon Kindle Fire. Not to worry, Apple fans, your favorite company is expected to snatch 62% of the global tablet market.

According to the company behind the study, in 2012 tablet sales have been on the rise and have jumped from 19.4 million in 2010 to 69.6 million in 2011 to a whooping estimated 107.4 million in 2012.

"Demand for media tablets remains robust, and we see an increasing interest in the category from the commercial side. We expect pending new products from major players, increasingly affordable mainstream devices, and a huge marketing blitz from Microsoft around Windows 8 to drive increased consumer interest in the category through the end of the year." Commented Tom Mainelli research director of IDC.

In 2012 Apple is expected to reach 62.5% of total global sales or 69.8 million units shipped worldwide. Even if in 2011 the iPad lost some market share to Android devices it still managed to dominate sales with 58.2%. Android tablets are expected to hit a rough year, being predicted to fall behind by 2.3% from the 38.8% they held in 2011.
