iPad lock

Hi,

I have had my ipad for three weeks and I have had a passcode which is numeric and showed a pin pad to enter the code. Tonight, I turn on my ipad after just putting the pin in an hour prior, to be displayed a alphabetical keyboard with a request for a pass code. I selected the numbers section to enter in my code but it was rejected all the time eventually erasing ALL MY DATA!!!!!!

What the heck happened and why was my pin not accepted?

After 3 weeks of downloads and customizing my iPad all I get is the bog standard screens after a restore!

What a waste.
