ipad 2 won't respond

I was in the process of updating my Ipad to the iOS8 when the usb cable became accidentally disconnected. Now my ipad won't turn on and Itunes wants me to restore the Ipad to factory setting which means I will lose any unsaved data! help please!! thank you!

I don't know if this will help, but it doesn't hurt to try it anyway: instead of turning it on, reset it, using the Home and Power button simultaneously until the Apple logo appears. As soon as the logo is visible, let go of both buttons and let the iPad power up.

If this works, you'll be able to update (I hope). Just make sure to backup before updating.

Or use recovery mode, if restoring isn't possible: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1808

If there is a recent backup, you'll be able to restore from that backup afterwards.
