Just caught a glimpse of a Red Kite this morning. These beautiful birds of prey were rendered almost extinct here and in many other countries due to persecution, but they were reintroduced to the Chiltern Hills, a bit further North from here and very slowly we are seeing the occasional one or two down in Surrey.

Hi Dave, That's right, plus the sheer size and, if you are bird lover you always have just a part of you always alert to seeing something interesting! Love your picture, too! :)

Well, we'll have to thank Jim Almond - but is beautiful. I do love birds (but not really active in any local bird watching groups - probably should join in my retirement?) - I have iBird South on my iPad - great app w/ plenty of pics, search options, and even 'sounds' of the birds - Dave :)

Japanese Snow Monkeys - PBS Documentary Narrated by Liam Neeson

Recently, I purchased a BD of the documentary described in the title and shown below - Susan and I watched on our HDTV and became enamored and fascinated; these native macaques live in the frigid valleys of Japan's Shiga Highlands - their faces are almost human and the babies adorable; the society is complex - below just some pics from the web, including one using an 'iPhone' (sure that was staged - ;) ). The entire video is online, if interested, but bluray on a big screen is best. Dave :)
