Well, we woke up to 5" of snow this morning - some pics below when I got our morning paper (which was delivered!) - our annual average is about a half foot, so hopefully we've seen the end? Will not melt as fast as usual because temps are 10+ F degrees below average until Tuesday - we were planning to go to an afternoon concert tomorrow of the local Symphony - suspect will be cancelled or postponed. Dave

P.S. I did tarp our cars yesterday afternoon expecting this result from the weather predictions!

You've got as much snow on the ground as I do up in Canada. Welcome to the great white north.

Well, I spent the first 25 years of my life in Michigan and moved south to escape these 'winter joys' - quoted below is the 'snowfall history' for Winston-Salem - typically, we get 2-3" a couple of times in the winter, which melts by the next day - but this is more than expected and will be around for a few more days than usual - sun is now out and the snow is sliding out the tarps on the cars - good sign! :)

In the spring, my preferred views of the house and yard should greet us, as shown below (April last year) - ;) Dave

Winston Salem has had an average annual snowfall of 7.5 inches over the last 30 years, which is 14.9 inches less than the national average (22.4 inches). 88% of Winston Salem's snow fell during the winter months. The record snowfall was 20.0 inches on March 02, 1927 - about average for snowfall records.

I hear your storm is part of a massive system that's moving up the Eastern seaboard into Atlantic Canada.

Storm Helena is indeed huge - watched the weather channel last night for a few hours, mainly when the discussion was on Georgia-Carolinas - storm had not reached Virginia Beach area yet, which was later hard hit - this morning, just light snow petering out in our area (first map below) - second map show's today's progression up the east coast - Long Island w/ my brother-in-law in Montauk may be in for a lot of snow - but, he just left for a trip to India so will miss the fun! ;) Dave
