Multnomah Falls, Columbia Gorge Near Portland, Oregon

Off my FB page today - below a static pic of this beautiful waterfall in Oregon - click the link for a video (Multnomah Falls - Video) - location near Portland, OR seen on map.

Back in the 1980s, we took a 8 or 9 day trip to Oregon - renting a car at the Portland Airport, then traveling down the Willamette Valley visiting wineries and staying in Eugene & Salem (visit to Crater Lake), then to the Pacific Coast w/ a number of stops going north; finally, ended up in Portland for 3 nights - day trip up the Columbia Gorge, including a stop at the Multnomah Falls - a beautiful state. Dave :)

A waterfall as magnificent and memorable as any in the country is located just a 30- minute drive outside of Portland. Visiting Multnomah Falls, a 611-foot-tall roaring, awe-inspiring cascade of icy water, lets you experience the power and beauty of nature up close and with ease. From the parking area off of I-84, a 5-minute walk is all that separates you from the exhilarating spray at the base of the falls. (Source)

For an even closer view, walk another several hundred feet up the paved trail to reach Benson Bridge, which spans the falls at the first tier's misty base. Standing on the bridge you have a perfect view of the top tier's full 542-foot height and a knee-wobbling vantage point over the second tier's 69-foot drop! The bridge is named for Simon Benson, a prominent Portland businessman who owned the falls in the early part of the 1900s. Before his death, Benson gave Multnomah Falls to the City of Portland, which later transferred ownership to the USDA Forest Service. (Source)

Well, my sister-in-law keeps posting beautiful 'nature' pictures by David Shipper, a Carolina-Georgia coastal photographer who lives in Beaufort, SC - since we've visited many of the places he frequents, I've been tempted almost daily, BUT having collected 'art' since the late '60s, we have virtually no wall space left to hang artwork - BUT, today a 'new' photo showed up (first pic below) called Lovely Bones, which was taken of Driftwood Beach on Jekyll Island, GA - we vacationed there last year and I posted a travelogue HERE - we took a 'dolphin boat tour' one day which ran along Glory Beach and I snapped my pics of the 'dead trees' (following two images - not as dramatic) - scenes from the Civil War movie Glory were filmed on the beach - for those interested check my link - OH, I just ordered a print from the first link above - take a look - Shipper's photos are just gorgeous. Dave :)
